According to sources, his body was “heavily decomposed” at the time of discovery, and Animal Control was called to retrieve his two dogs, the Daily Mail reports.
Authorities do not suspect “any crime,” because “weapons and musical equipment in the house remained intact”. The cause of his death has not yet been released. Bryar was last seen alive on November 4.
As the longest-serving drummer and last official member of My Chemical Romance from 2004 to 2010, Bryar’s departure was shrouded in rumors of tensions with his bandmates—Frank Iero, Mikey Way, Gerard Way, and Ray Toro.
Although the band members did not discuss the details, multiple sources confirmed that there was a conflict, according to MTV.
Bryar replaced former drummer Matt Pelissier after the release of the band’s second album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004).
He subsequently continued to perform and record music with the band on all material released until his departure. On March 3, 2010, guitarist Frank Iero announced that Bryar had left the band, but Bryar continued to work with the band in 2013.
After retiring from music in 2014, he became a real estate agent and an active supporter of dog rescue and shelter.
In 2021, Bryar auctioned off the drum set he last used with the band—both on tour and recording the iconic 2006 album, The Black Parade—to raise funds for an animal rescue center in Tennessee, according to Rolling Stone.
