The competition of scholarships for innovation.
Through this competition, innovative projects proposed by the students of the University were recognized, who addressed current themes in the field of medicine: innovative medical research, integrated management algorithms for different pathologies, optimization of patients, support for patients and medical education, as well as volunteering in disadvantaged communities.
The project was carried out with the support of Astrazeneca Romania.
The award event for the winning projects took place in the presence of the university management and the representatives of Astrazeneca Romania.

The meeting was an opportunity to explore new collaboration directions between the academic and private environment, of the research -based pharmaceutical industry, for the purpose of Promoting innovation in medicine through concrete projects, which can contribute to the modernization of the health system in Romania.

This competition reconfirmed the role of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Haţieganu” in Cluj-Napoca as a promoter of academic excellence and health innovation, giving students the chance to actively involve in research projects with practical applicability.
Five teams consisting of three students were designated winning, Each student will receive a scholarship to carry out the project.
Award -winning projects include a mobile application for reporting adverse effects on chemotherapy, which allows oncological patients to monitor and transmit real -time treatment, facilitating adjustment of therapies. Also, a personalized digital platform has been selected to assess the risk of insulin resistance, which analyzes the metabolic parameters of patients and offers personalized recommendations for preventing type 2 diabetes. Another winning project is crochnare, an application for patients with Crohn’s disease, which optimizes communication with physicians and symptoms. In the field of medical imaging, UMF students “Iuliu Haţieganu” proposed Smart Mammo, an algorithm based on artificial intelligence that improves the accuracy of evaluating the excision of the mammary tumors, providing decision -making support to the oncology surgeons. Also, an innovative neuroscience project, Mind in Motion, proposes an interactive digital platform for stimulating neuroplasticity, intended for patients with motor or neurocognitive deficiencies, through personalized exercises.
Through these innovative projects, UMF students “Iuliu Haţieganu” show that they can actively contribute to the progress of medicine and to improve the quality of patient care.
