Ionel Ganea (52 years old) is making efforts to overcome, little by little, the tragedy that marked him for the rest of his days, after his 2-year-old son died in a road accident at the beginning of June 2025.
Ganea was driving a Dacia Duster car between Hurez, Beclean commune, and Făgăraş municipality. He collided with a car stopped on the road, most likely due to inattention at the wheel.
The impact was strong and caused serious damage to both vehicles. The child was not protected, not having the seat belt on, and the “Ganes” chose to file a criminal case. His child, who was in the right seat, suffered serious injuries and, after spending almost a month in the hospital, died.
Ionel Ganea organizes the “Ioan Alexandru Ganea” Memorial, 6 months after the death of his child. Retired from public life, the former international made the decision to set up a football tournament in the area.
“We will organize the first edition of the “Ioan Alexandru Ganea” Memorial. We will always love you, angel!Ganea said, according to monitorulexpres.ro. The competition will take place on Friday, December 12, at the Sports Hall of the “Radu Negru” College in Făgăraș. 4 old-boys teams will participate: Nitramonia Făgăras, Chimia Victoria, FC Brașov and the national team of Romania.
Among those who accepted Ionel Ganea’s invitation are Miodrag Belodedici, Iosif Rotariu, Ciprian Marica and Mugurel Buga.
