32 Romanian feature films released in cinemas or on streaming platforms in 2023 were on the proposed list for nominations in the Best Film category. The performances of Romanian filmmakers will be rewarded during the 18th edition of the Gopo Awards Gala, which will take place on April 29 at the “IL Caragiale” National Theater in Bucharest.

32 Romanian feature films released in cinemas or on streaming platforms in 2023 were on the proposed list for nominations in the Best Film category.

The most nominated films this year are Liberty (14 nominations), Northbound (13 nominations), Don't Wait Too Long From the End of the World (11 nominations), Boss (9 nominations) MMXX (6 nominations) and The Dream (6 nominations) . In the Best Director category, Bogdan Mirică is nominated for the film BOSS, Tudor Giurgiu for the film Libertate, Cristi Puiu for the film MMXX, Radu Jude for Don't wait too long for the end of the world and Mihai Mincan for Spre Nord.

Diana Gheorghian (Dark Ages), Adelaida Perjoiu and Bianca Cuculici for their roles in the feature film MMXX, Ilinca Manolache (Don't wait too long for the end of the world) and Cătălina Moga (Tiger) are competing for Best Actress in a leading role. for Best actor in a leading role, Laurentiu Bănescu (BOSS), Alex Calangiu (Liberty), Niko Becker and Soliman Cruz are competing for the roles in the film Spre Nord and Vlad Logigan (The Dream).

6 short films are in the running for Best Short Film, and in the Best European Film category, film critics from the nominations jury voted for the following five titles distributed in cinemas in Romania in 2023: Anatomie d'une chute / Anatomy of a collapse (dir. Justine Triet), Close / Near (dir. Lukas Dhont), As bestas/ Beasts (dir. Rodrigo Sorogoyen), Fallen leaves / Falling leaves (dir. Aki Kaurismäki) and Saint Omer (dir. Alice Diop).

Starting this year, the Gopo Awards will have two preselection juries, one for the feature film category and the second for the documentary and short film categories. The pre-selection jury, which established the nominations for feature films, is made up, as before, of 11 professionals from the cinematographic field. Among this year's jurors are film critics Cristina Corciovescu, Mihai Fulger and Valerian Sava, directors Ruxandra Ghițescu and Ioana Uricaru, actress Ofelia Popii, cinematographer Tudor Lucaciu, editor Melania Oproiu, costume designer Oana Păunescu, producer Gabriela Suciu and composer Cristian Lolea. The jury for documentaries and short films includes 5 professionals from the industry, these being the film critics Andrei Rus and Ramona Aristide, the director Radu Ciorniciuc, the screenwriter Andreea Vălean and the editor Dan Nanoveanu.
