The Japanese, fascinated by the craft of contemporary jewelry. Two Romanian designers perform at the Expo 2025 Osaka.
Gabriela and Alexandru are jewelry designers with real success in the country and now in Japan. The two were selected to participate, for two months at the Romanian Pavilion in EXPO2025, and their mission is to talk to the participants who came to Osaka from all over the world about Romania’s crafts and traditions.

170 countries participate in the Expo 2025 Osaka and an presence of over 28 million visitors is estimated. In this multicultural and linguistic context, the two designers chose to communicate by bringing together mythology and new technologies.
And the most effective way to tell the story about your country is to make known to the university audience, the traditional Romanian reasons, from the popular costumes., But all gathered, in a jewel.
The unique idea of sewing these reasons on metal started from the country, even on December 1, on the National Day, in 2024. Gabi and Alex created the first “jewelry with traditional Romanian models” by which the fans discover the beauty of the Romanian traditions transposed in the art of modern jewelry, at the school of jewelry.
After the success in the country, the two designers exported him to Japan, at Expo 2025, to Osaka. And the effect was a fabulous one. Gabi and Alex taught the participants in their workshop to make their own unique pendants with models inspired by Romanian folk art, engraved on brass.
This is how the thousands of visitors discovered the charm of this craft, sewing alongside the two talented designers and exploring the harmonious combination between tradition and contemporary design.
At this jewelry course, even the Japanese men loved to sew the famous “muscles” on us, on the brass tablets, turning them into the strongest pendant with Romanian vibrations.

Invitations discover how the life of a jewelry begins
Gabi and Alex are passionate about jewelry, this being their way of life. Equally, the two designers love to share this art with curious and jewelry lovers.
The courses organized by them in the country are very successful, because learning to make yourself a jewel is health for mind and soul, an art therapy that we all need.
In Japan, the next project developed by Gabriela and Alexandru introduces visitors in the handmade jewelry universe. There is no need for experience, because it is a simple and intuitive activity.
The workshop “The first step to a ring” is an interactive workshop dedicated to wax sculpture. Each participant receives a preformed ring made of green wax and guided by a visual model, has 10 minutes to transform, using a few jewelry tools.
The resulting pieces are not taken home, but they become part of a collective installation: a gallery of creations made by visitors from all over the world. The ring of each one is photographed before being added to the collection, and the image remains as a memory of a moment of spontaneous creativity.
