The President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, promulgated the law submitted by USR senator Ştefan Pălărie, which explicitly prohibits convicted sexual aggressors, registered in the Register of Sexual Aggressors, to work or volunteer in: schools, hospitals, care centers, sports centers, or in any institution that involves direct contact with children, the elderly or vulnerable people, Regardless of whether they are public or private institutions, according to USR, News writes.

“Some battles fought in Parliament end up lasting an unwanted long time. Years. But that does not make them any less important. The law promulgated today by Cotroceni, after 2 years of negotiations and debates, brings a great help to vulnerable people. For too long, potential victims of sexual predators have been left to their fate: children, women, people with disabilities, the elderly, as well as other vulnerable people. Through this law, we will provide more security in schools, hospitals, asylums and other institutions that work with vulnerable people. We can ban the aggressors from working with them, the police can know where they are and what they are doing.” says Senator Ştefan Pălărie.

The new law, which explicitly stipulates that persons convicted of sexual crimes registered in the Registry, can no longer work in such places, offering better protection to vulnerable people.

In addition, the new law provides that the register will also include information on the place of work of the aggressor, an information that was missing until now, and the persons registered in the Register will be obliged to notify the Police if they conclude a work or volunteer contract, the USR also states in the release.
