“The Dinamo Sports Club announces with deep sadness the passage to the eternal ones of the former great champion Ion Cernea. Born at Râu Alb, Dâmbovița county, on October 21, 1935, Ion Cernea died last night, at a private hospital, where he was admitted for three weeks.
Ion Cernea represented CS Dinamo as a sportsman and coach from 1958 to 1990. In his record as a sportsman there are two Olympic medals, silver in 1960 and bronze in 1964, and two world medals, gold in 1965 and silver in 1961.
