“It’s not a detention room, it’s a space in which maybe even before schools could separate those who disturb the class time from their colleagues, precisely to ensure the right to education of the entire school collective. It may be the library, it may be another classroom that is not in use at the time. The moment a child disturbs the time and all his colleagues, he can be extracted by the school to a special room where he does educational activities decided by the teaching staff or lectures, if he is in the library”said Ligia Deca, at Digi 24.

According to the minister, in the organization and operation regulation there is a possibility for the school to remove the recalcitrant student from the class.

“The student can be extracted by the school counselor, if the school has this possibility, it can be the teacher on duty, it can be another teacher. (…)Many told us that they need measures for those who really disturb the class without feeling that there is any measure that the school can take. Because you can’t kick him out.” Deca also explained.

Who supervises the students, in the detention room

The student who was recalcitrant will be supervised by a teacher. He is not absent, but the family is informed.

The family is informed, and when these behaviors are repeated, there are other sanctions that can be applied, such as the lowering of the behavior grade and the other sanctions in the Organization and Operation Regulations. It is not a single measure. It is one of the many measures that the Regulation provides, when the behavior is outside the norms that we should respect in a school”, said Ligia Deca.

According to the cited source, such measures are part of the strategy to combat violence in schools and the phenomenon of bullying.
