The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, announced on Wednesday, February 25, that he approved the certification of seven new centers of expertise in rare diseases. According to him, “Romania thus reaches 58 officially recognized centers at the national level.”
“Rare diseases mean complex cases that cannot be managed piecemeal. They need validated centers, dedicated teams and clear accountability at every stage of care”said Alexandru Rogobete.
The new centers will be at:
- “Sfânta Maria” Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children Iași – through the Regional Medical Genetics Center – for rare neuromuscular diseases
- “St. Maria” Clinical Hospital Bucharest – Rheumatology Department – for autoimmune and autoinflammatory musculoskeletal diseases
- Fundeni Clinical Institute – Departments of Neurology I and II – for rare neurological diseases
- “Dr. Victor Gomoiu” Children’s Clinical Hospital Bucharest – Pediatric Clinical Department II – for pediatric gastroenterology in rare diseases
- Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children “Sfânta Maria” Iași – Department of Pediatric Surgery I – for vascular anomalies
- ONCOHELP Timișoara – for cancer-predisposing syndromes
- “Marius Nasta” Pneumophthisiology Institute Bucharest – Section 5 Pneumology – for rare respiratory diseases
The Minister adds that each center has gone through a rigorous evaluation process, based on clear criteria regarding professional competence, activity and the ability to collaborate in the network.
“For patients, this means a better defined medical pathway and faster access to diagnosis and treatment. For the system, it means uniform standards and clear accountability.
My objective is for this network to work as a unit, connected to national programs and European mechanisms, so that each patient can reach evaluation and therapy faster”, said Alexandru Rogobete.
At the beginning of the month, Rogobete announced that it was expanding the network of centers for rare diseases, with new units in Craiova and Timișoara and wider access to modern therapies.
The new center at the Craiova Emergency County Clinical Hospital is dedicated to the diagnosis and management of hereditary angioedema, a rare disease with severe potential.
In Timișoara, the center within the “Louis Țurcanu” Children’s Emergency Clinical Hospital focuses on rare vascular anomalies and long-term care coordination.
