The Minister of the Environment announces that an electric car will be manufactured in Romania. “You have an electric car for nothing if you have nowhere to charge it”

The Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, said on Thursday evening, on Digi24, that this week he received “great news”, namely that an electric car will be manufactured in Romania. It will go into production starting this year, the minister also declared.

He also said that the Rabla program will be rethought so that more legal entities and local authorities benefit from it, based on the great interest and the fact that this year's budget was exhausted in a few minutes.

We have seen great interest for legal entities and formidable interest for local public authorities. It makes us happy and makes us somehow rethink these matters, because a budget exhausted in minutes also generates many dissatisfied people, that is not the role of a program funded by the AFM“, said Fechet.

He also said that he is thinking of allocating a larger amount for companies, to the detriment of individuals, for the following programs.

It's true, for certain models and cars with several eco-bonuses, financing can reach up to 13,000 lei. I think it is premature to draw the conclusion, we have to wait for a sufficient period of time and it is a continuous dialogue with importers or dealers, we will of course draw these conclusions as soon as possible to be able to resize this program on the fly“said the minister.

Mircea Fechet also stated that it is great news that starting this year an electric car will be produced in Romania as well.

The big news we received this week is that an electric car will finally be produced in Romania. This will happen this year and it is great news for the Ministry of the Environment, and for Romanians in general, because we were suffering in this chapter. The first three were made in either China or the USA. We have been talking about ways to finance“, said Fechet.

There is a big difference if it is done overseas or in Romania, or on the continent, because there is a prioritization mechanism, it is happening in France and other countries, not yet in Romania, because we are waiting to see what we can finance. From 2035, new cars with internal combustion will no longer be produced“, he continued.

The Minister of the Environment also said that he wants to move money from the Rabla Classic program to Rabla Plus, so that more Romanians opt for electric cars.

It's natural to happen. If we did a mathematical exercise we could imagine that the entire budget from Rabla Clasic would be so small, that there would be no need to discuss this financing“, also stated Fechet.

However, the minister said money is also needed for other investments, such as chargers for electric cars.

You have an electric car for nothing if you have nowhere to charge it. We have already decided next week to have a working group and determine the direction of where we are going for the next five years. It is natural, and for the first time we also invited financial institutions“said the minister.
