The Parliament spends a million euros monthly for the elected employees. The record set by one of the senators

More than 1,000 people were employed at the parliamentary offices as counselors, experts, consultants and drivers. The hires were made by the 464 deputies and senators from the current legislature, and for their payment, the Parliament settles over 5 million lei.

The amount spent monthly for the payment of these employees is equivalent to 1 million euros, and the record is 11 employees at a single parliamentarian.

The journalists from Digi24.ro asked the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies information on the personnel employed in the offices of each parliamentarian. According to the data obtained, the 464 elected officials hired 1,188 people – counselors, experts, consultants, drivers. It is important to note that these figures refer exclusively to the employees of the parliamentary offices and do not include the officials in the administrative structures of the legislature.

Thus, the 330 deputies have a total of 765 employees, for which the monthly expenses amount to about 3.7 million lei, according to the payment states provided for May.

At the Senate, the 134 senators have 423 employees, and the personnel expenses reported for June reach 1.5 million lei.

In total, for the employees of the parliamentary offices, both chambers of the legislature settle about 5.2 million lei monthly. Apart from the operating expenses, ie goods and services, which are calculated separately.

Chamber of Deputies

The largest parliamentary offices in the Chamber of Deputies count 8 employees, in the case of Deputies Zopol Dragoș Gabriel (minorities) and Szabo Ödön (UDMR).

Others, have 6 employees, such as the case of deputies: Biró Rozália-Ibolya (UDMR), Crîstici Ognean (minorities), Culeafa Mihai (PNL), Firczak Iulius Marian, Gheorghe Andrei Daniel (minorities), Mihalcea Remus-Gabriel (PSD), Neagu Petre-Emanoil (minorities), Răducanu Sebastian (PSD), Seres Dénes (UDMR) and Solomon Adrian (PSD).

There are also deputies who have not declared any employees to help them with the legislative affairs, three of them being current ministers in the Bolojan office: Florin Manole (Ministry of Labor), Diana Buzoianu (Ministry of Environment) and Ciprian Șerban (Ministry of Transport). And the golden leader, George Simion, are zero employees.

Senate

The record of the employees in the parliamentary offices is registered in the Senate, in the case of Senator Daniel Fenechiu (PNL), who has 11 people. The top is completed by his colleagues Varga Glad Aurel (PNL), Monica Anisie (PNL), Humelnicu Marius (PSD) with 10 employees each, followed by Titus Corlățean (PSD) with 9 employees.

Unlike the Chamber of Deputies, there is no choice in the Senate that does not even have an employee on the payment states.

Senator Varga Glad Aurel also recorded the highest monthly expenses – 29,585 lei, in June, for his 10 employees. It is followed by Daniel Fenechiu, with 25,113 lei, and Titus Corlățean – 23,199 lei.

How much money does the parliamentarians have available

According to the Statute of Deputies and Senators, in order to exercise their mandate, the elected officials receive a lump sum from the budget of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for the expenses of organizing and functioning of the parliamentary offices.

“The amount of the amount is established by the decision of the permanent reunited offices of the two chambers, depending on the budgetary resources, but not less than one and a half gross allowance of the deputy, respectively of the senator.”

Currently, the budget they receive reaches 35,500 lei, after increasing their flat amounts, in 2023, with 7,500 lei.
