Starting this year, the payment of school grants has been delayed, and students will receive their money on the card later. But this is not the only novelty, because the school year 2024 – 2025 brings several important changes.

The 2024-2025 school year brings important changes to the school scholarship awarding system, in particular, regarding the social scholarship. The changes are regulated by the new Methodology-framework for awarding scholarships, approved by ME Order no. 5.518/2024.
What are scholarships
School scholarships are financial incentives given to students who achieve educational or sports achievements, but also to those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. By offering these scholarships, students are encouraged to achieve the best possible academic results. On the other hand, this money is of real help to families with a precarious financial situation and directly helps to prevent school dropouts.
Types of Scholarships
School scholarships are conditional on the family’s income (social scholarship) and the students’ academic performance (Olympic excellence scholarship I and II and merit scholarship). Since this year, however, three more scholarships have appeared: the scholarship for resilience, which is awarded to students with an annual average of at least 7, to encourage them to learn, the technological scholarship, which is awarded to students from professional and technical education, including dual, and the scholarship awarded minor mothers.
How and when payment is made
The scholarship money is transferred to the accounts associated with the scholarship file of the student in question, submitted to the secretariat of the school where he studies. In the Scholarship Awarding Framework Methodology, it is shown that the payment of scholarships is usually made by bank transfer, but the educational units do not require the opening of accounts at a specific bank for the transfer of the amounts related to the scholarships.
Starting this school year, the money will be transferred to the cards on the 20th of each month and not on the 15th, as was done before. The exceptions are the months of September and October, for which scholarship recipients will receive the money on November 20.
In the case of merit scholarships for 5th grade students, for which the lists are established in January, the money is transferred to the students’ accounts starting in February, for the rights related to the month of January, until the end of the courses of the respective school year.
Amount of school scholarships
In the 2024-2025 school year, students can benefit from the following types of monthly scholarships in the amount of:
- scholarship for Olympic excellence I – 3,700 lei/ 2,775 lei/ 1,850 lei/ 925 lei;
- scholarship for Olympic excellence II – 700 lei;
- merit scholarship – 450 lei;
- resilience scholarship – 300 lei;
- social scholarship – 300 lei;
- technological scholarship – 300 lei;
- scholarship for minor mothers – 700 lei;
