The premiere of the National Geographic series “NASA: behind the scenes of innovations” 43 years after sending the first ship into space TRAILER

National Geographic announces the premiere of a new 6-part documentary series, “NASA: Behind the Scenes of Innovations,” on April 16. Starting with an iconic date in the history of space exploration, April 12, 1981, when the National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched the space shuttle Columbia (OV-102), the series “NASA: Behind the Scenes of Innovation” brings to National Geographic viewers the fascinating story of the people who they are behind some of the most spectacular discoveries and innovations in space.

43 years ago, Columbia was the first reusable spacecraft designed to carry out multiple missions in space, paving the way for the most affordable and sustainable way to explore outer space.

In each episode, you will discover the captivating story of inventors, innovators, scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs who have put their shoulder to the development of revolutionary technologies. The documentary offers exclusive access to NASA's technology campuses and innovation centers, showing what a typical day looks like at one of the world's largest companies.

Viewers will be able to witness incredible innovations that will change the course of history and open new horizons for humanity: from satellites sent into space to rovers on Mars equipped with artificial intelligence.

How do astronauts prepare for space missions? Who are the people who service NASA satellites? How does the well-known GPS control system work in interplanetary travel? These are just a few of the many questions answered in the six-episode series “NASA: Behind the Scenes of Innovation.” The premiere will take place on Tuesday, April 16 at 9:00 PM on National Geographic. New episodes air every Tuesday from 9pm.
