The President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will be on an official visit to Bucharest on Wednesday, June 19, at the invitation of the Romanian Head of State, Klaus Iohannis. He will have meetings with the President Klaus Iohannis, the President of the Senate, Nicolae Ciucă, and the Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu .

The official visit represents a continuation of the dialogue at the highest level, marked by the historic moment of the state visit that the President of Romania made to the Italian Republic in 2018, the first after 45 years, but also by the third joint meeting of the government Romanian-Italian, held in Rome, between February 14-15, 2024, the Presidential Administration supports.

In 2024, Romania and Italy celebrate the 145th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, as well as the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, significant dates for the upward progress of bilateral dialogue.

“In the context of the excellent relations between Romania and Italy, based on a solid bond, the official visit to Bucharest reconfirms the importance of the Consolidated Strategic Partnership, the dynamism of the multiple areas of bilateral cooperation, the contribution to the social and economic life of the Romanian community in Italy and the Italian community in Romania , as well as common approaches in European, Euro-Atlantic and international forums. The two heads of state will also discuss aspects of European and global developments, with an emphasis on the EU Strategic Agenda and the security situation”, sent the Presidential Administration.
