“In the last month and a half I had the opportunity to interact with one of the richest public administrations in Romania. I found to my chagrin that almost an entire floor of a building came to work after 10:00.
I saw the biggest exhibition of high-end handbags that cost a lot of money, and I saw an impressive number of people coming to work and probably doing next to nothing. There will have to be a thorough analysis there”said Costin, quoted by Agerpres.
Also, the NBS president added that there are chronic labor shortages in the budgetary system, giving the example of the prison administration.
“I have identified some inadvertences in the structure of salaries in payment, in which, in order to correct them, some decisions will have to be taken. Instead, we remain short of investments in the modernization of public administration.
The system that administers pensions in Romania is still rudimentary, with software that does not work, with huge volumes of work of 12-14 hours/day, with people who are not paid for the extra effort“, Costin said.
He mentioned that the new government must do an analysis together with the unions and “to cut from where it needs to be cut”.
According to the leader of the SNB, a fiscal reform must be implemented because, otherwise, “the money that should arrive as budget revenues goes into other pockets and we will remain indifferent to this chronic problem of the Romanian economy”.
