“I can't say that today: Cristian Popescu Piedone retires or will let the next one. I also heard about these rumors that I will be supported to become deputy mayor. They called me, they clearly told me to withdraw on Thursday“, said Cristian Popoescu Piedone, in an intervention on Antena 3 CNN.
At the same time, Cristian Popescu Piedone admitted that he received a call in which he was proposed to show his support for Gabriela Firea in the competition for the mayor's office of the Capital, in exchange for a position of deputy mayor.
This in the conditions where the polls show that Gabriela Firea is one of the main candidates for the Capital's mayor's office, and Piedone's withdrawal would strengthen her position.
Concretely, a survey carried out by the Romanian company Epsilon, at the request of the PSD, suggests that the current general mayor of the Capital, an independent candidate supported by the United Right Alliance, Nicușor Dan, is in first place in the preferences of Bucharest residents, with 29%, followed by the PSD senator , Gabriela Firea with 25%, by the PNL candidate, Sebastian Burduja, with 17% and in fourth place is the PUSL candidate, Cristian Popescu Piedone, with 16%.
