The “Romanian disease” that we should beware of: the danger that can spoil the joy of the match with Ukraine

Of course, after the 3-0 win against Ukraine, people talk about the Romanian national team in a completely different way, first of all, in the country. Unfortunately, precisely at such moments, after a great success, we have a historical capacity to deliver a great disappointment!

The Golden Generation did that at the 1994 World Cup. After going 3-1 with Colombia, Hagi and company were crushed by Switzerland, 1-4, in the very next game. Fortunately, they then recovered and advanced to the quarter-finals.

Returning to the current national team, for the tricolors, the match with Belgium follows on Saturday (10:00 p.m., Pro TV, VOYO platform). That is, an opponent that disappointed in the first stage, losing to Slovakia (0-1). As we need a point, to ensure our presence in the last eight of Euro 2024, it would be a great shame not to take advantage of the crisis of the Belgians. Hence the warning of Mircea Lucescu (78 years old): “This victory against Ukraine is only important if it brings another victory. Not to mean an end, but on the contrary, to be an extraordinary reason to continue the same and even better in the match against Belgium“.

And Gheorghe Hagi (59 years old) had a similar speech: “Guys keep your feet on the ground! Let's start over and win with Belgium now. I said a month ago, that we win the first two matches and draw with Slovakia“.

The match with Belgium was also prefaced by Victor Pițurcă for gsp.ro: “There is no reason to be afraid of Belgium, which is no longer a team to be afraid of. We have to keep our focus, the psychological advantage of the moment, play as lucid, as accurate and we can get a result that will take us to the next phase of the competition“.

*Edward Iordănescu, Romania coach: It is infinitely easier to manage a moment of euphoria than a moment of balance. We will have a balanced joy after the match against Ukraine, and from the next day we will start working again.

“Adevărul” reporter Paul Cirican, a journalist with over two decades of experience, present at several major competitions over the years, will broadcast from Germany. From there, he will make reports and follow the progress of the tricolors in the final tournament.
