The moment of raising the Romanian Orthodox Church to the rank of Patriarchate will be marked by various activities organized during the next year, the proclamation of the canonization of several contemporary saints and the great consecration of the National Cathedral being just two of them.

The first event will take place on Wednesday itself, on the first day of the year, when the year 2025 will be proclaimed as the Year of Homage to the Centenary of the Romanian Patriarchate and the Commemorative Year of the Romanian Orthodox priests and confessors of the 20th century.

The Romanian Patriarchate established, in order to promote the Centenary, a special visual identity of the historical event, with deep symbolism.

The main symbol of the identity of the Centenary of the Romanian Patriarchate is the Centenary Seal (anniversary logo). BOR representatives also explained the symbolism used.

The Centenary Seal includes the number 100 formed by 2 ovals and the Patriarchal Cross, the central element, which symbolizes the number 1. The seal uses several specific episcopal symbols, also present on the Patriarchal coat of arms, such as the miter, the processional cross, the episcopal crutch”, explained the BOR representatives .

The dots and circles in this logo are not ornamental either, but each have their own meaning. “The three vertical points on the miter represent the Holy Trinity, the two left-right ovals are the icons of the evangelists on the bishop’s miter and, also on the miter, the six horizontal circles refer to the six patriarchs that Romania had in the 100 years. Also, the 10 points adjacent to the cross in the center of the seal represent the 10 Metropolies of the Romanian Patriarchate. The number 100 comes to complete, clearly, at the base of the logo, the visual identity of the historical event”, BOR also mentions, according to basilica.ro.

The Centenary Seal will be completed by the Centenary Letterhead and the Centenary Patriarchal Cross, the letterhead to be used for the interior elements as a signature certifying the publication of a material in the Centenary Year. At the same time, the Centenary Patriarchal Cross represents the image of the special distinctions that will be awarded in the Centenary Year.
