The sanction received by a student who increased his grades in the electronic catalog, with the principal’s password

A student from the Friedrich Schiller Theoretical High School in Oradea ended up in court, after illegally accessing the school’s electronic catalog, using the principal’s password.

A student from the Friedrich Schiller Theoretical High School in Oradea reached a plea agreement with the prosecutors, after he illegally accessed the school’s electronic catalog and modified grades, both for himself and his colleagues.

DIICOT Oradea prosecutors and ordered, in his case, the educational measure of supervision for a period of 2 months.

According to Bihoreanul, the boy visited the electronic catalog for several months, between December 2023 and June 2024, when he was in the 10th grade. “He was 17 years old at the time of the incident and used the directory’s access credentials to gain unauthorized access to the computer system, where he deleted or “improved” grades – both his own and those of his colleagues.” the journalists write.

The judges noted that it was not an isolated incident, but a repeated practice. “54 material acts of illegal access to the computer system and 51 material acts of altering the integrity of computer data were committed”, it is shown in the court decision.

Thus, on December 24, 2023, the teenager deleted his grade 6 from a German test and replaced it with a 7. A few months later, on March 16, 2024, he returned to the catalog: the grade 7 in mathematics became a 9, and the grade 8 in biology was “rounded” up to 10. Another time, the student turned a 6 in the Romanian language into a 8, in physics he increased his grade from 7 to 8, and in English he directly passed his 10.

He would have resorted to the gesture out of fear of losing the merit scholarship.

The teachers noticed “INTERVENTION” suspicious from the electronic catalog and notified the management of the high school, who decided to report the case to the Police.

The teenager admitted to the charges and accepted a plea deal with prosecutors. “I recognize the accusation that is brought against me. I regret the committed act and I am aware of the consequences of illegal actions”, he stated.

The decision is not final and can be appealed within 10 days of communication.
