Dermatovenerology took first, with only 60 places available nationally, followed by plastic surgery with 59 places.

A statistic made by HotNews shows that among the first 200 residents, 47 candidates chose cardiology, and 33 focused on dermatovenerology and plastic surgery. Only one candidate chose general surgery, six chose Anesthesia and Intensive Care (ATI), and other surgical specialties were chosen sporadically: obstetrics-gynecology by five candidates, ophthalmology by four, neurosurgery by two, and ENT by two.

Family medicine, despite having the largest shortage of staff and the largest number of places up for competition, was not chosen by any of the first 200 applicants. Pediatric surgery, cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics or urology, surgical specialties too, are not found in the preferences of the first 200 graduates.

There are specialties that are much needed, such as surgery and ATI, but were not chosen by the residents.

This year, the medical specialties with the most places available for competition were family medicine – 641, internal medicine – 190, cardiology – 189, general surgery – 181, anesthesia and intensive care – 180, pediatrics – 152 and obstetrics-gynecology – 148.

The residency exam took place on Sunday, November 16, and on November 23, the allocation of specialties began, depending on grades. Almost 7,000 students participated, of which 5,179 passed.
