The Ministry of Education will change the structure of the school year in such a way that the educational units can organize the “Different School” and “Green Week”, including during the written exams of the Baccalaureate. This is the statement of State Secretary Florian Lixandru, who also came with other news. The decision comes in the context in which the summer tests overlap with the school hours, because for the students of the 9th, 10th and 11th grades, school continues until June 20.

Secretary of State Florin Lixandru stated on a television station that the Ministry of Education is already preparing a project to modify the structure of the school year. The official also announced other measures that could be taken.
Students taking the Baccalaureate will be assigned to other schools
“The Baccalaureate exam is organized in exam centers. The exam centers assume the existence of at least 250 candidates. Practically, examination centers will be organized in compliance with this condition of a minimum of 250 candidates, maybe even more depending on the capacity of each school. And then we will try as much as possible to reduce the number of educational units that will organize the exam on that day”, the official said. In other words, students who will take the Baccalaureate in the summer could take the exams in a school different from the one where they studied. “And we will make sure that where we have both a middle school and a high school, we do not organize a baccalaureate center, the students go to another educational unit, where it is strictly high school education”, continued Florian Lixandru.
Father: “And who will take care of the children?”
At the same time, states the secretary of state, educational units will have the opportunity to organize “Different School” or “Green Week” during the exam week. “We are now working on a project to modify the structure of the school year that will give them the opportunity to organize these specific “Schools differently” activities, respectively “Green Weeks”, also during the exam period, so as not to disrupt the activity“, explained Lixandru. Iuliana Constantinescu, the representative of the parents in the second sector of the Capital, stated for Adevărul that this solution is not sustainable. “I wonder how the activities will be organized and who will accompany the children on the visits they are supposed to make. Because the teachers will be “caught” with the exams. Then, teachers do not have the right to ask parents for money for tickets to the museum, theater, other institutions. Who will give this money? Does the ministry allocate funds for these students to leave school?“, asks Iuliana Constantinescu. He said that parents will be the ones who will bear the financial consequences of such a measure. “They will be forced to take money out of their own pockets for the movement of the children to other locations”.
Students who study in the morning could be moved to the second shift
Where this is not possible, the secretary of state also said, the school will have to reorganize the student’s schedule: “Students who study in the morning will come in the afternoon shift.” But even this solution is not approved by the parents. Iuliana Constantinescu explained to us that there are very few schools where they learn in the morning, in one shift. “Generally, students study in two shifts: morning and afternoon. If you move the morning people to the afternoon, where do you move the latter? At night? Shall we call them three instead?”
Ligia Deca: “The Baccalaureate calendar cannot be changed”
Asked, during a televised show, if it is possible to return to the original Baccalaureate calendar, the one from the past years, Ligia Deca replied that this is impossible. “You can not. The structure of the school year has already been announced, the calendar of national exams has been announced. The reasons why we opted for this variant were also announced and came as a result of public feedback. We all know what the temperatures have been this year, but it’s not just about that. It’s also about, for example, many graduates who wanted to go to universities that complete the application phase very quickly. And, then, this baccalaureate, which extended long into the month of July, limited their right to enroll in higher education. Also, the proficiency tests take place in the winter precisely to let the children focus better on the written tests during the baccalaureate, and we also left days off between the tests precisely so that the students can perform better. I have given a number of options for organizing these exams, and I am convinced that each educational unit and each exam center will find the right solutions. We have to think first of all about the children”, stated the minister.
The statements come in the context in which more than 30 teachers from the “Saint Sava” National College in Bucharest submitted an open letter to the minister. The teachers stated that they will not cope with the end of the school situation and the organization of the Baccalaureate exam.
