The Romanian newspaper “Gazeta de Herța”, published in Chernivtsi, publishes the complete list of all the soldiers from the region who died on the front in the war started by the Russian Federation, almost four years ago.
The editor-in-chief of the publication, Vasile Bâcu, states that hundreds of the victims come from the Romanian community in Ukraine.
“If we talk about the Chernivtsi region, we have about 1,800 people who are brought home and buried with honors, without taking into account those who disappeared without a trace or who are prisoners. “Gazeta de Herța” publishes every week the images of the fallen, and in each group 10, 12 or 15 people are also soldiers of Romanian origin”. said Bâcu, according to Agerpres.
The mayor of Ciudei commune, Anatol Pițul, spoke about his concern regarding the large number of young Romanians enlisted in the Ukrainian army and sent to the front:
“We have six that we have already buried, but we have 12 more who are missing without a word. Some 150 today are still fighting at the front. It is a large percentage. They are off to defend their country. A boy was enlisted, he had two deaf and dumb parents. After two years and five months, they brought him home in a coffin. There was an extraordinary mourning, because everyone was crying for the parents who could not express their grief, because they couldn’t speak.”, said the mayor.
February 24, 2026 marks four years since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
