Top of Bucharest high schools: One of the most popular school units has lost its place on the podium

On the top three places in the ranking of preferences for high schools in Bucharest are “IL Caragiale”, “Gheorghe Lazăr” and “Iulia Hasdeu” National Colleges, according to the study on the school and professional options of students in the 8th grades.

The report prepared by the Bucharest City Center for Educational Resources and Assistance (CMBRAE) for the 2023-2024 school year shows that, although last year the “George Coșbuc” Bilingual National College was in third place in the top, now it has lost this place in the ranking , according to edupedu.ro.

Another difference that appeared in this year's ranking was recorded for St. Sava National College, which now ranks 10th in the ranking, but last year it was not mentioned in the list of the first 10 options of students from Bucharest.

Changes also appeared on the 5th and 6th places of the ranking, where the Grigore Moisil National College was replaced by the “Gheorghe Şincai” National College, these places being reversed in the ranking for the 2022-2023 school year.

On the 7th place is the Tudor Vianu National College, which last school year was on the 10th place in the hierarchy of preferences, and on the 9th place is the Alexandru Ioan Cuza Theoretical College, which replaced the Matei Basarab College. The latter is now tied for 10th place as options in Bucharest students' preferences, with St. Sava National College.

As in previous years, with insignificant differences from a statistical point of view, and in this school year 2023-2024, students opt more for the theoretical stream (75.05%) compared to the technological one (5.30%) or the vocational (7.75%)“, the report states.

How many places are available at the top high schools

The “Iulia Hașdeu” National College in Bucharest has 234 places, i.e. 9 classes, of which 3 classes in mathematics-informatics, one class each in Mathematics-informatics – English bilingual, Philology – Spanish bilingual, Philology – English bilingual, Natural Sciences and 2 classes in Philology. The average of the last admitted last year was between 8.20 and 9.55, according to the admission brochure published by ISMB.

At the Bilingual National College “George Coșbuc” there are 156 places, i.e. 6 classes in total divided as follows: 2 classes each of Mathematics-informatics – bilingual English and Philology – bilingual English, one class each Natural Sciences – bilingual English and Social Sciences – English bilingual. The average of the last admitted last year was between 9.47 – 9.67, depending on the profile.
