Spectacular victory for tigresses! CSM Bucharest once again demonstrated its strength and beat Ferencvaros away, score 35-30.
The result gives the Romanians the chance to control the fate of direct qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals, depending on tomorrow’s match between Ikast and Odense. The last round of the group will be played next weekend, and CSM remains in a favorable position.
Bojana Popovic straightened the team
After setbacks to Ljubljana and Odense, it looked as if hopes for direct access to the quarters had dimmed. But Bojana Popovic brought the team back to victory, and CSM Bucharest won the last six matches in the competition. Thus, the confrontation with Ferencvaros was decisive to finish the group in one of the first two places.
Moreschi made a sensation in goal
Maslova opened the scoring from the 1st minute. After a balanced start, CSM Bucharest took the lead and did not give it up until the end. At the 12th minute, the tigresses were leading 6-3 thanks to the interventions of Moreschi and the effective attacks of Crina Pintea. Ferencvaros tied it at 10, but CSM quickly regained the lead, going into halftime up 17-15.
The second half started strongly, with Maslova again scoring the first goal. Moreschi continued to shine in goal, and halfway through the second half, CSM Bucharest was leading comfortably, 26-20, clearly establishing the direction of victory.
Calculations for direct qualification in quarters
The tigresses were not satisfied with maintaining the advantage and quickly increased the difference, 28-20, forcing a time-out from Ferencvaros. In the end, CSM Bucharest won clearly, 35-30, climbing to the 2nd place in Group B, with only one stage remaining.
The calculations for the direct qualification to the quarters are simple: Ikast must not lose tomorrow against Odense, and CSM must win the last leg against Ikast. In this case, the result of the match Odense – Ferencvaros no longer matters, because the Romanians have the direct advantage in the event of equal points.
