The former president of Romania, Traian Băsescu, estimated, during a live show, that the AUR party would obtain a maximum result of 10% in Sunday's elections.

“GOLD has a chance of getting a result around 10 percent, it can be 2 more, 2 less, I think they will be somewhere here, but the independents have no chance“, said Traian Băsescu, on a televised show, broadcast on B1 TV.
Regarding the results of the rest of the parties with right-wing policies in Romania, the former president claims that in the European Parliament, such members are not taken seriously. Băsescu also stated that, although in the countries of origin these parties can obtain the necessary votes, in the Executive of the community group, their proposals are not on the same wavelength as the policies and rules from Brussels, and precisely for this reason they “are zero “.
“I was looking at those who pretend to be sovereignists or even extremists in the European Parliament. The three big groups, the popular group, the socialist group and the ECR, together always coalesce and isolate them. They have no chance to promote the nonsense they say at home when they fool the citizens from whom they get votes, so they are zero in the Parliament, because they are the three big groups, which will remain. The sovereignists will not come to invade the European Parliament (…), they say in vain “we are going to defend Romania in the European Parliament”, they will not even be able to defend themselves, because they will be voted out as many times as they do not respect the treaty”said Traian Băsescu.
Although right-wing parties from all over Europe have begun to gain ground, their policies do not align with those of the European Union, and in the context of the European Parliament, they will never succeed in achieving their nationalist goals, says Traian Băsescu.
“The sovereignists they are the biggest liars. They come and say “we want a sovereign Romania, full of money from the European Union and we don't want to have anything to do with the European Union Treaty”, or I repeat, for those interested, once the Accession Treaty is signed and ratified, the member states, in Germany, up to Malta, including Romania, they leave a part of their sovereignty, they hand it over to Brussels“, added the former President.
