Traian Băsescu hit the ground running with the possible PSD and PNL candidates in the presidential elections, saying that both Ciucă and Ciolacu are rated with lower percentages than the parties they lead.

On Sunday evening, the former president of Romania, Traian Băsescu, also stated on RomâniaTV that at the moment “public life has no locomotives”, and the possible candidates of the PSD and PNL parties, Marcel Ciolacu and Nicolae Ciucă, are both rated below the percentages registered by the parties they lead.
Also, the former head of state claims that postponing the official announcements related to the candidacy is a strategy of the party leaders, in order to secure the positions they already hold in the future.
“I think that Ciolacu has not decided yet because he is playing an internal game and he is right to do it. He wants to take things to the limit where the candidate can be announced and then tell them – “I see we don’t have anyone else. I’ll get you out of trouble, but you guarantee me that I will remain the PSD president and prime minister – if necessary». I am convinced that this is the game that Ciolacu is playing now, it is keeping them in tension“, said Traian Băsescu, referring to the eventual candidacy of the PSD leader in the race for the presidency.
Also, although in other televised shows Traian Băsescu openly declared that his favorite choice for the presidential race is Elena Lasconi, the head of the USR party would have little chance of success if “they don’t get along with all parties and parties”.
However, the former president claims that the only candidate who ranks slightly above the party is Elena Lasconi. “Ciolacu is under the party, this other one – the general (no – Nicolae Ciucă) is also much under the party. Paradoxically, the only one who is slightly above the party is the lady from USR, Mrs. Lasconi“, he declared.
Ciucă’s chances of reaching the second round are minimal
