“The fight against authoritarian tendencies, corruption and lies is taking place on several fronts, and its most dramatic illustration is, of course, the Ukrainian-Russian front. But the responsibility for the fate of Western civilization, based on freedom and respect for each individual, rests with each of us, in every place. (…)Pamong some of our brothers it is full-scale warfare in its most brutal form. It is not our fault that our daily vocabulary once again includes words such as: fighting, bombing, missile attacks, genocide. Europe wanted to live and develop in a post-war world. But today, we must say clearly that we are faced with a simple choice: either we take up the fight to defend our borders, territory, principles and, consequently, citizens and future generations, or we will fall.” said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Congress of the European People's Party (EPP).
The Polish Prime Minister emphasized that “nthere is no objective reason to capitulate to evil” and that the economic, financial, demographic and moral potential of Europe “is greater than the potential of those who attack us.” “It is crucial today that Europe believes in its own strength,” Tusk added.
The Polish Prime Minister campaigned for the safety of the EU through its own defense and unity, as “nno one will come to take our place in this fight”.
“The European Union must understand that unity will lead to a safe Europe for all people, as our manifesto says and today this is the signal that farmers and food producers are eagerly waiting for. They want to know that Europe understands them and knows what their needs are”, Tusk claimed.
The Prime Minister of Poland emphasized the need to protect the external borders of the European Union and food security on the continent.
“Two years ago we were calling on all European leaders to support Ukraine unconditionally and to create an energy European Union to give up our dependence on Russian gas and oil. We must cooperate to protect our common external borders and today I appeal to you for food security on the continent. This is another condition to benefit from safety and security in all their aspects and I know that with the help of leaders like you, like the prime ministers and presidents we have, Manfred and Ursula, we can count on you“, concluded Tusk.
