Angel Tîlvăr, the Minister of National Defense, decided that the aircraft should act to extinguish the forest fire that is taking place in the area of the forest fund of the Moisești locality, in Mehedinți.

The aircraft took off from Base 90 Air Transport Otopeni, around 10:00 a.m., for the execution of the first mission, and around 1:00 p.m., for the second mission, MApN said in a statement

The flights are carried out at the request of the Department for Emergency Situations within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, considering that there is a risk of the fire spreading to other areas of the forest and that the actions of the specialized intervention forces are hampered by the rugged terrain and the lack of water sources.

C-27J Spartan aircraft can carry up to 6,000 liters of water (up to six containers) per pass. The Romanian Air Force has acted, from 2017 until now, to extinguish several forest fires both on the national territory, as well as in Albania, France, the Republic of Slovenia, Greece and North Macedonia.
