Two decades after the appearance of the “blue pill” for men, Viagra for women was launched

25 years after the appearance of the well-known blue pill for men, an American company announced that it launched a line of medical products with effects similar to Viagra, but dedicated to women. The business, which was born during the pandemic, is in full development.

Since the two drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction became very well known (Viagra and Cialis), according to statistics, one of the most profitable segments of pharmaceutical companies is the one dedicated to the treatment of sexual dysfunctions. Thus, the company Hello Cake, a start-up based in Los Angeles, saw the opportunity and entered the market with a product that treats sexual dysfunctions dedicated to women.

“Billions of dollars have been invested in medical treatments for men, but solutions for women have not been invested as much and have been overlooked”, said Mitch Orkis, co-founder of Hello Cake.

Mitch Orkis and his partner Hunter Morris founded this start-up in the middle of the pandemic, when there were a lot of restrictions on movement, so people spent more time at home. The two Americans saw the opportunity to develop their business: more time at home can mean more time for sex. Thus they founded the company Hello Cake, which sells condoms and lubricants, but also numerous supplements that, they say, improve the overall state of health, according to G4Media.

Mitch Orkis stated that at first he did not think of a line of medical products intended to treat sexual dysfunctions in women, but the company adapted to the market demand, taking into account the feedback received from customers. First, the company did a market survey, after which it turned out that approximately 60% of those who responded to the questionnaire complained that the main problem is not being in sync with the partner’s wishes.

“We surveyed our customers and seven out of 10 women said they needed help to increase their libido,” Mitch Orkis said.

“We didn’t intend to launch medicine when we started Hello Cake, but we listen to our customers and give them what they want. It also made sense as a business model. There are very high profit margins and drugs that actually help fuel increased sex drive in general.” he further explained.

Thus, the company introduced two new prescription-only medicines to the market: a dissolvable tablet (Libido Lift Rx) and the topical cream O-Cream.

Because the two products dedicated to the treatment of sexual dysfunctions in women contain several compound substances (oxytocin, also known as the hormone of love and attachment, tadalafil, the active ingredient in Cialis, L-citrulline, an amino acid that promotes blood flow, topical sildenafil ), have not been approved by the FDA, but can be purchased with a prescription.

While the company claims that the libido pill takes effect in 30 minutes, lasts up to 72 hours and can be taken daily, experts warn, as in the case of Viagra treatment, that it has several side effects. These include headache, flushing, changes in vision, nausea and gastrointestinal disturbances. Also, topical sildenafil can interact with drugs for high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes, as well as with nitrates and alpha-blockers, reports Newsro.
