Cluj University, the only team in the play-offs that has never won the championship, is on a high this season. Cristiano Bergodi’s students reached the first place in the Superliga, after the unconvincing victory on the field of FC Argeș.
The two revelations of this season provided spoon football during Saturday night’s meeting, counting for the second leg of the play-offs. An extremely balanced match, with few goal phases, was decided by the blunder of the season: goalkeeper Cătălin Căbuz, who had received the call-up to the national team a few hours before the start of the game, cleared the ball after a pass from a teammate and sent it into his own goal, in the 82nd minute!
It ended 1-0 for U Cluj, who can take a picture of the ranking. Transylvania, the only ones with two wins in the play-off, are in first place in the Superliga, tied with Craiova University, and are dreaming of the first title in history.

Cătălin Căbuz is the last player to be selected for the national team for the match against Turkey, on Thursday evening. The goalkeeper of Pitesti took advantage of the injury of Mihai Popa, from CFR Cluj, being called up under the tricolor by Mircea Lucescu a few hours before the start of the match with U Cluj. The goalkeeper of the violets is the first player of FC Argeș to be called up to the first national team in the last 17 years, after Cristian Tănase wore the national jersey in 2009 as a player of the “eagles” from Pitesti.
