MEP Winkler Iuliu (UDMR) stated that the extremists, giving the example of Senator Diana Şoşoacă and her former party colleagues, are not nationalists, but only cause a political scandal, claiming that they would continue the same practice in the European Parliament.

“What can a scandal do, but to make a scandal. If I only look at what is happening in the Romanian Parliament, in the public sphere, in social media, then I see some people who are not true nationalists. To be a nationalist you must love your homeland, your people, your nation and act in this sense. Or what the extremists in the Romanian Parliament are doing today, the lady in question (Diana Şoşoacă – na) and her former colleagues, I don't think it's nationalism, but simply a political scandal. The political scandal is a little more difficult in the EP, because the law enforcement officers come and take you out.
From a media point of view, you can do it live on Facebook and in front of the EP or from the corridors, but the political result of such an action is null. I am convinced that, just like in 2019, and now in 2024 the pro-European political forces will be in the majority in the EP and they will be able to make up those majorities that will give the president, presidents of specialized commissions, the EP Bureau and those politicians who will be at the decision buttons”, said Winkler Iuliu, at Prima News, according to News.ro, after being asked what a nationalist and Eurosceptic MEP, like Diana Şoşoacă, could do in the EP.
The UDMR MEP explained that, after June 10, mathematics will decide the number of parliamentarians from the EP parliamentary groups and expressed his hope that the EPP will retain its primacy.
“The social-democratic group will follow, but the two groups together will not have the majority, so they will need other allies“, mentioned the UDMR MEP.
The list of UDMR candidates for the European Parliament is opened by Winkler Iuliu.
The MEP specified that the goal of the UDMR team, for which he is entering the electoral campaign for the European Parliament, is to achieve a change, a return of the EU to the values of the founders.
