Video A robot performed a rare operation at a hospital in the capital. The Minister of Health announces that he will finance robotic surgery through a special program

The Minister of Health announces that, starting this month, there will be money from the ministry for such robotic surgeries.

Rare surgical intervention at Foișor Hospital in Bucharest: a double hip replacement in the same operation in a patient from Romania.

The 61-year-old woman suffers from severe coxarthrosis and did not think she would ever be able to walk normally again, having been turned away by other hospitals due to the complexity of her case.

She became dependent on a wheelchair because she could no longer walk.

“The difficulty of the operation in the case operated by the doctors from Foișor Hospital consisted in the fact that, due to the disease, the patient’s legs were no longer equal, therefore, fixing the prostheses was necessary to be done within the same intervention. The surgical robot was essential for this step as it positioned the hip implant without error,” according to Digi24.

According to the doctors, the advantages of robotic surgery are multiple and the recovery is much easier, so the patient can walk the very next day.

In Romania, although there are 21 robots in 16 public hospitals, very few operations are performed with robots, as the hospitals have no funds and the Insurance House settles too little.

The costs of a robotic intervention are also hundreds or thousands of euros higher than a classic operation.

Alexandru Rogobete, the Minister of Health announced that he will finance robotic surgery through a special program.

“I estimate that, starting in March, public hospitals will receive funds directly from the Ministry of Health for robotically assisted surgical interventions,” said Alexandru Rogobete.
