Marcel Ciolacu does not believe in Victor Ponta’s chances in the presidential elections. He will be a candidate, he will have to resign from the party. Otherwise, “I will be obliged to exclude it from the party,” said the leader of the Social Democrats.

“Announces Mr. Ponta that he enters the presidential struggle for a month (…) and again on Monday you will see that he will go to a television and announce that he is in the presidential struggle. My opinion is that Victor Ponta would have been a good president when he was a candidate, at this moment I do not believe in the chances of candidate Victor Ponta, because there is a common candidate who cannot be stopped by an independent candidacy. So I will not vote with Victor Ponta, as I did not vote with Klaus Iohannis ”said Marcel Ciolacu.
According to the prime minister, the PSD candidate, PNL, UDMR and the minority group is Crin Antonescu. If Victor Ponta wants to apply, he will be excluded from the party.
“It is normal to be other opinions. I cannot stop another member of the PSD to apply. If he does this, or he will resign, if not, I will be obliged to exclude him from the party. Today’s news is not Victor Ponta, it is Crin Antonescu. There’s no scandal. I have a democratic nature, it seems fair to me that others have other opinions. My sincere opinion is that Crin Antonescu will be the President of Romania, with or without the candidacy of others, of Mrs. Lasconi, of Nicușor Dan, of Victor Ponta ”, concluded Marcel Ciolacu.
Ponta: I am very determined to go into battle
Even during the PSD Congress, Victor Ponta announced on his Facebook page, on Sunday that he will “go into battle” and propose a total change project, so that Romanians have more brave leaders
“I am very determined to go into battle. Romanians have more brave leaders to propose a radical change, as they are waiting for. I will propose a radical project, a total change project. Unfortunately, the coalition does not listen to the Romanians by designating a candidate of the past, of the system. Today, a single candidate, Celin Georgescu, talks about radical change ”, said Victor Ponta.
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) validated, on Sunday, the candidacy of Crin Antonescu at the May 2025 presidential elections, in an extraordinary congress
