Nineteen localities in Argeș, Bacău, Buzău, Galați, Hunedoara, Neamț, Vâlcea and Vrancea counties were severely affected by the heavy rains of the last few days, causing floods and landslides.

According to the information provided by ISUJ Glalați, the toll of the floods has increased to 4 dead people: a man from the town of Pechea, a man from the town of Drăgușeni, an 86-year-old woman from Costache Negrii and a 75-year-old woman from Corord .

Initially, the rescuers reported only two dead people, the two men from Pechea and Drăgușeni.

According to a report by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), the biggest problems were registered in Galati County, where two people lost their lives in Pechea and Drăgușeni.

“Following the manifestation of hydrometeorological phenomena, in the last 24 hours effects were recorded in 19 localities from 8 counties (AG, BC, BZ, GL, HD, NT, VL and VN), where intervention was made to save over 40 people (Galați county), for the evacuation of water from 14 houses, 25 yards, 5 cellars, 11 basements of blocks, 5 streets, 2 public institutions and 2 economic operators“, IGSU sent in an official statement.

Also, the intervention crews acted to clear 29 trees blown down by the wind and a pole that fell on the roadway, damaging 8 cars.

Galati County was severely affected by floods and rains

In Galati County, the situation was particularly serious. In the localities of Pechea and Grivița, the floods formed as a result of the massive amounts of precipitation surprised more than 40 people in their homes, requiring the intervention of firefighters to rescue and evacuate them. Unfortunately, two people were found dead, and the intervention teams continue to act in the area to limit the damage and protect the population.

The Galati County Police Inspectorate informs that, following heavy rainfall the previous night, Galati County is facing floods that have seriously affected several localities and led to the temporary blocking of some county and national roads.

  • DJ 242 between Umbrărești and Târgu Bujor;
  • DJ 242B between Baneasa and Moscow;
  • DJ 251A between Nicopole and Brătulesti;
  • DJ 251 between Suceveni and Rogojeni;
  • DJ 251 between Valea Mărului and Măcișeni;
  • DJ 251 between Corod and Valea Mărului;

Localities affected by floods and floods include Pechea, Costache Negri, Slobozia Conachi, Cuza Vodă, Tudor Vladimirescu, Corni, Băneasa, Suceveni, Vârlezi, Cudalbi, Berești Meria and Mândrești. Road traffic was also affected. A national road (DN 7, in Vâlcea county) and a county road (DJ 203C, in Buzău county) were temporarily blocked due to alluvium and fallen trees. In Neamț County, on DJ 159, traffic remains completely blocked due to the alluvium that invaded the roadway.

To manage this crisis, the authorities have mobilized additional resources in the field. “At the level of Galați county, five boats brought from Brăila, Buzău, Tulcea and Vrancea counties intervened to rescue people caught by the flood. Also, four additional boats were sent from Vaslui, Ialomița, Bacău and Buzău”stated IGSU. Efforts continue in Galati County, where intervention teams are using inflatable boats to evacuate people affected by the floods.

At the central level, the Department for Emergency Situations constantly monitors the situation, coordinating the activities in the field. The specialized structure of this department maintains permanent contact with local institutions involved in crisis management.

At the same time, forecasts and warnings were sent to the competent authorities to prevent further incidents, and the population was informed through the RO-ALERT system in the affected counties.

For Galati County and the other affected areas, IGSU increased operational capacity, keeping crews on alert and ready for quick interventions.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu canceled his political and governmental program that he had in Botoșani and will travel to Galati County to assess the situation caused by the floods.
