Video European city named the greenest in the world: 95% of residents live a few minutes from a park

A city in Europe stands out for something that few associate with urban life: nature is at every step. 95% of the inhabitants live less than 300 meters from a park or green space.

The Green Cities Index, made by analyzing several cities according to the percentage of green spaces, their accessibility and air quality, placed Oslo in first place, with an overall score of 77.3 out of 100, express writes.

Norway’s capital stands out for its high air quality and the highest percentage of public parks and green spaces. In addition, 95% of the city’s residents live within 300 meters of a park or green space, making Oslo one of the easiest European capitals to explore on foot.

Visitors to the city can explore one of the many “pocket parks” – former parking lots transformed by community volunteers into green spaces in more built-up areas of the city.

Also, “Royal Palace Park” and “Vigeland” are both popular choices. Vigeland is also home to the world’s largest sculpture park created by a single artist.

Outside the city, the greenery continues. According to the quoted source, a train of only 20 minutes takes you from the city to the Oslomarka forest, which has wonderful hiking trails around Lake Sognsvann.

Oslo is proving to be a bee and other pollinator friendly city too. The Norwegian capital hosts the first “highway for bees” in the world, a corridor of native flowers and bee hotels that runs through the city, encouraging the insects to make their home here.
