A European city has been chosen as the “best travel destination” in 2026 by the organization European Best Destinations, based on the votes of millions of tourists from 154 countries. The destination stood out for its unique combination of culture, lifestyle, gastronomy and quality of life, offering visitors authentic experiences.
The city of Madrid, the capital of Spain, enjoys about 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and is famous for the comfort it offers to tourists.
The Sun editor Kara Godfrey recommends some of her favorite spots: La Pez bar, where tortillas are served in generous portions and can be accompanied by a beer or a tinto de verano (a very popular soft drink in Spain) for just €2.50. He also recommends the El Cielo de Montera terrace, an elegant rooftop space where an Aperol Spritz can be enjoyed with a spectacular view of the city.
Another popular place for cocktails and panoramic views is the Sky Bar, located at the top of the Hotel Riu Plaza España, which offers 360-degree views of the city.
Madrid also boasts impressive green spaces.
El Retiro Park, the largest public park in Madrid, has more than 15,000 trees and offers the possibility of boat rides on the lake, at the price of 4 euros, admiring the monument of King Alfonso XII.
During the summer, the city becomes even more vibrant, with lively markets, wide boulevards and varied shops, all offering tourists the opportunity to combine relaxation with cultural and gastronomic exploration.
