The Romanian subtitles of the film “Eu, Tonya”, in which the Romanian actor Sebastian Stan also plays, caused controversy, after the extremely vulgar language was translated directly, without any 18+ warning.
The subtitles contained profanity throughout the film, including very harsh expressions from the street language, suitable for the media page.
The film, inspired by the life of figure skater Tonya Harding, also stars Margot Robbie, Oscar nominee for the lead role, and Allison Janney, who won the Oscar for her supporting role.
In the subtitles broadcast by AXN, expressions such as: “my c..r hurts”, “you suck on me…” or “F the dead hold me”, the word “How” appearing several times.
AXN is part of the Antenna Entertainment group.
Although the station is addressed to the public in Romania, the broadcast is made from Budapest, and the content is not managed locally.
