The decision announced on Monday, April 27, by PSD and AUR to jointly initiate a motion of censure against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan contradicts the vehement statements made by George Simion two years ago, when he categorically excluded any collaboration with the social democrats.
In an interview given to the Prima TV station in 2024, the AUR leader claimed that his party would not form an alliance with the PSD under any circumstances and promised that he would resign if the AUR ended up entering the government with the social democrats.
When asked, concretely, what he would do if, after the parliamentary elections, the only possible majority for the PSD was with the AUR, Simion answered then bluntly:
“AUR, as long as it does not give the country the president or is not in first place in the elections, does not enter a governing coalition because we cannot change anything.”

In the same interview, Simion was asked what he would do if, however, AUR entered the government alongside PSD: “Are you resigning?.
The AUR leader offered one of his most quoted responses:
“I resign from all public positions. George Simion does not clap with the PSD, I say it… where is the camera I have to look at? There. That’s it. George Simion does not clap with the PSD, George Simion does not make an alliance with the PSD, George Simion is the only one capable, energetic enough, young, determined to end PSD in Romania”. said George Simion in 2024.
PSD and AUR have just announced a joint no-confidence motion against the Bolojan Government
On Monday, April 27, 2026, PSD and AUR announced that they will jointly submit a motion of censure against Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
The representatives of the two parties specified that it is an approach “strictly technical”, necessary to gather the number of signatures required by the procedure.
Both Marian Neacșu (PSD) and Petrișor Peiu (AUR) insisted that it was a matter of punctual collaboration for the dismissal of the Government.
“We are announcing that we have initiated the technical process of writing the motion. We have decided to have a joint motion. We are making a joint process of drafting a motion of censure to be submitted to Parliament. This will be debated at the beginning of May, with a view to the dismissal of the Bolojan Government. There is no pact with PSD, it is a collaboration in order not to make two motions and have them both fail.” sent Petrișor Peiu, the leader of the AUR senators.
“We are calling on all parliamentarians who want to contribute to the motion, either with proposals for the text or by voting. We are jointly writing a motion of censure, which will pass. We have a plan, discussions initiated by the President of Romania will take place and we will come up with a solution”, transmitted Marian Neacșu, the representative of the PSD.
Asked about the hypothesis of a PSD-AUR Government, Marian Neacșu stated that “political decisions will be taken by the political forum”.
Petrișor Peiu said that the leaders of AUR and PSD have not yet discussed the hypothesis of forming a majority.
“Our political goal is to reach early elections. If it is not possible, we have proposed a path based on the idea of opposition until the elections on time. We are encouraged by our electorate that this government should leave because it has done a lot of harm”Peiu emphasized.
