During the speech, Grindeanu was visibly emotional when he spoke about his family, present at the event, but also about the moment when he was dismissed from the position of prime minister through a censure motion initiated by his own party and later expelled from the PSD, following the conflict with Liviu Dragnea, the former president of the party.

“I can honestly say that I am, with all the functions you listed earlier and after all the functions I’ve been through, I can honestly tell you that this is the first time I’ve really had emotions and it shows. Today I am finally home with you! (…) Thank you for the honor you give me to run for the PSD congress.

I still have emotions because of another important thing: it is the first time that the whole family is with me. My wife is with me, and my son, who has participated in such events before, and my daughter is with me, who is participating for the first time. (…)

You, Timișul, together with Caraș (…) are my political family and you have been with me, and Timișul and Caraș, throughout this period. You were also there in those hard, very hard moments, when you gave everything. (…) All for the idea that we are right. And I was right in those days of June 2017″he declared.

He also stated that Romania should not be led by hypocrisy and criticized “those who they screamed hysterically that they want hospitals, not cathedrals”but now gets VIP treatment at the Nation’s Cathedral.

We are here in Timișoara, the city of freedom, and this makes us remember what the stubbornness of a dictator who thought he could shape Romania in his image and likeness, who did not care about people, only cared about numbers, if you remember, about the external debt, who starved his own people, to pay some aberrant debts. This example should ultimately inspire us to never give up in the face of difficulties and to keep fighting for what is right.

That’s why I invite you today, from here, from Timişoara, to resist those who wish us harm and not to bow our heads to those who think they are the only holders of the truth. I ask you to be firm, to be determined, I ask you not to be hypocrites, like some who screamed hysterically that they want hospitals, not cathedrals, but today they rush past the line and have VIP treatments at the Nation’s Cathedral, while people waited in line for seven hours”declared Sorin Grindeanu, in Timisoara.

“This is a hypocritical Romania, not the Romania that PSD should represent”he pointed out.
