A Facebook group, which was associated with former PSD leader Liviu Dragnea, turned into one supporting Călin Georgescu, the candidate who obtained the most votes in the first round of the 2024 presidential elections.

The group that supported Liviu Dragnea for three years became, overnight, one that promotes Călin Georgescu, with over 29,000 members.
From 2021 to the present, the group has existed under several names. If in September 2021 it was called “Liviu Dragnea -APP- Hope of the Romanians“, later in August 2022, it was changed to “Liviu Dragnea“. He continued to be associated with the figure of the former leader of the PSD and during 2023 when he became “Sovereign Romania, together with Liviu Dragnea, saves Romania“, and later “MRS – A country program developed by Liviu Dragnea for Romania“. As of September 2024, it reverted to the name “Liviu Dragnea”, but not for long. From December 3, 2024, the group underwent a radical change and was renamed “Călin Georgescu loves Romania“, reports Gândul.
The transformation of the group was not a surprising one considering that both Liviu Dragnea and Călin Georgescu have sovereignist visions. It seems, thus, that even the fans of the former leader of the PSD have gone over to Georgescu’s side.
“The system trembles at the thought that it is losing control and Călin Georgescu will become president. All the propaganda against him, that he is taking Romania out of the EU and NATO or that he is the man of the Russians, is a big lie that Mrs. Lasconi and her supporters are spreading”, said Liviu Dragnea, on Facebook, on December 3, the day one of the groups supporting him started promoting Georgescu.
Also, on December 9, in the last post made on social networks, Dragnea commented on the decision of the Constitutional Court by which the presidential elections were cancelled. “The Constitutional Court trampled on the country’s democracy and constitution“, was his conclusion.
