Invited to the theater summer, during meetings with the members of the community “We go to the theater”, Mihai Călin spoke openly about truth, history, the war in Ukraine and civism. The actor was extremely critical of the nationalist speeches, mentioning Călin Georgescu and his colleague Dan Puric.
“I think if you do not know history you do not know what is happening to you and you have no landmark, you are very easy to manipulate. For example, People who look at Călin Georgescu. If I look at 30 seconds I can tell you that it’s a legionary speech. Everything that means nationalist, God, ancestral nations … The Romanian people are the saved people … This is not Christianity. There is no such thing (…). We are not educated, not invested in education and we arrived so“, Said the actor. He added sharply: “Our national Christianity is, in fact, fascism!”.
“Collective lie” and the illusion of greatness
Calin also spoke about “collective lie“Which feeds the idea that Romanians are”great and big and hospitable“. The actor criticized the messages promoted by gold and his colleague Dan Puric:”Rather, you are critical and autocritical and lucid, than to get drunk, by the way of gold and all this story that we are big and strong, and as my colleague Dan Puric has been saying for years, that we, the Romanians, give them the spirituality lessons. That we are Christians before Christ! ”.
Hard attack on Sergiu Nicolaescu
An intense moment of the discussion was when Mihai Călin spoke about the director Sergiu Nicolaescu, whom he called “misery”.
“The Romanian people learned history from the films of Sergiu Nicolaescu. A bastard! A proud and full of him who took advantage of, copied the police films from France and Italy, made the history, raised in glory on Ceausescu and made Antonescu one of the heroes of the Romanian people. Romanian soldiers! ”said the actor.
Personal involvement and reactions from the public
The actor, from a family of refugees (his mother and grandmother were born in Baku), was actively involved in supporting the Ukrainians who flee the war. He told how he hosted refugee families, explaining that civic involvement is a moral debt.
His statements have aroused divided reactions. On YouTube, someone wrote: “A special man Mr. Mihai Călin. I didn’t know that until this podcast. I like him a lot. Congratulations!“Others criticized him:”It has talent, but it has no character. It seems that his exacerbated pride and the love of silver blind him. To denigrate Sergiu Nicolaescu, it seems too much to me”.
