Video Situations in which the seat belt is not mandatory. “I do what I want in my car”

Seat belts save lives. Although wearing it is mandatory, the road legislation also establishes some exceptions. The police specify what these situations are.

You are not required to wear a seat belt in the following situations: if you are reversing or parking; if you are a pregnant woman, in a visible state of pregnancy“, the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs sent, in a video posted on the Facebook page.

There are also certain regulations related to the wearing of seat belts, which vary according to the type of transport service.

They are also not required to wear a seat belt: the author drivers who perform public passenger transport services, in taxi mode, when transporting passengers; driving instructors, during the trainees’ practical training; the examiner, during the driving license exam. And last but not least, people who have medical certificates in which the condition is mentioned, which contraindicates wearing a seat belt. The respective certificate must have expired, and the list of conditions is established by the Ministry of Health“, it is also shown in the video of the Romanian Police.

Even if you are in one of the listed situations, wearing a seat belt is recommended! Drive cautiously, drive safely! Life takes priority!“, is the conclusion of the police.

However, people’s opinions are divided. There are a lot of people who have argued that seat belts should be optional.

From my point of view, it should be up to the free will, who wants to wear, who doesn’t, no, but everyone should take their own risk,” one person commented on Facebook, while another wrote that: “It would be more correct to make wearing a belt optional“.

There are many drivers who consider the seat belt to be inconvenient or even useless.

Diseases that eliminate the obligation to wear a seat belt

According to Order 1246/2007, a list of diseases was established for which the occupants of a vehicle with a capacity of less than 3.5 tons are exempted from wearing a seat belt. These are:

1. Hemorrhagic syndromes

2. Abdominal tumor syndromes (splenomegaly, organomegaly, massive adenopathies)

3. Acute and chronic leukemias

5. Malignant lymphomas

6. Liver cirrhosis and liver cancer with voluminous ascites

7. Postthoracotomy and sternotomy status for various thoracic operations, 3 months postoperatively

8. Extraanatomic axillo-femoral bypass

9. Recently fitted cardiac pacemaker

10. Acute diseases of the breast

11. Obesity that prevents the seat belt from being fastened
