Réunion Island is a French overseas territory and is part of the Mascarene Islands. Located east of Madagascar, Réunion has been included in the list of the most impressive islands in the world “go unnoticed”. Vacation rental site HomeToGo named it “a fantastic alternative to the popular Maldives“, according to express.

The island has a population of approximately 873,000 inhabitants, who predominantly speak Réunion Creole, although the official language is French.

To the west, the island is formed by Mount Salazies, an extinct volcano, and to the east is Mount Grand Brûlé, home to the active volcano Piton de la Fournaise.

Michel Karam, CEO of müvTravel, described Réunion as “one of the most unusual island paradises on the planet”, pointing out that the island is known for its volcanic interior and rainforests, coral reefs and beaches.

Réunion is home to numerous beaches, often equipped with barbecue facilities and parking spaces. It is an ideal place for adventure holidays, offering opportunities for hiking, cycling, swimming, diving, paragliding, rafting, horse riding and whale watching.

Hermitage Beach is Réunion’s largest and best-preserved lagoon and a popular snorkeling location. It is a beach with white sand, bordered by casuarina trees.

Le Vieux Port beach in Saint-Philippe has green sand formed from small olivine crystals from a 2007 lava eruption, making it one of the youngest beaches on Earth.

The towns on the edge of the island are also worth exploring, with restaurants, museums and tourist attractions. Most of the populated areas are on the periphery of the island, and its center is crossed only by a road measuring about 100 km by 60 km.
