A charming city, with cobbled streets and historic buildings, it seems straight out of a fairy tale and is considered “different from any other European destination”.
It is about Mostar, small but full of charm, located in Bosnia and Herzegovina, between Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.
Mostar impresses with its fascinating history, streets paved with cubic stone and picturesque buildings, which date back to the 15th century, although most constructions date from the 1800s. The city stretches along the banks of the Neretva River, over which stands its famous medieval bridge, a symbol of the old center and local heritage, according to Express.
The Old Bridge in Mostar – UNESCO heritage
The most important tourist attraction is the Old Bridge in Mostar, included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. Built in the 16th century, the bridge impresses with its beauty and offers spectacular views of the old center.
Other popular attractions include the 1992-1995 War and Genocide Victims Museum, the Kujundžiluk Bazar market area, the Koski-Mehmed Pasha Mosque, and Lake Jablanica.
Tourists who have visited the city describe the experience as unique.
“Bosnia wasn’t on our list, but we were pleasantly surprised. The bridge is spectacular and the town is full of shops, restaurants and churches, alongside traces of its tumultuous recent history”said a visitor.
Another added: “Mostar is a masterpiece city that must be visited.”
“Mostar is so different from any other European destination. We took a day trip from Dubrovnik to see the town and the old bridge. There are many unique souvenir shops and the bridge is a spectacle with jumpers waiting to dive.” said another tourist.
