Drama FX “Shogun” already broke the record for most wins in a season at the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend. With 14 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, “Shogun” has already surpassed the record previously held by the HBO miniseries “John Adams” since 2008, which has won 13 awards.
“Shogun” dominated the main acting categories, with wins for Best Drama, Leading Actor (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Leading Actress (Anna Sawai).
Anna Sawai became the first actor of Asian origin to ever win in this category and Hiroyuki Sanada is the second Asian actor to win the Emmy Award for leading role in a drama series, writes news.ro.
Based on James Clavell’s novel of the same name, “Shōgun” is a reboot of the Emmy Award-winning 1980s NBC miniseries. Set in feudal Japan in the 1600s, the series features Sawai as Lady Mariko, and John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), an English ship captain who enters Japanese society as it prepares for war.
Jodie Foster won the first Emmy at this gala. The actress was rewarded for her role in the miniseries “True Detective: Night Country”.
After Lily Gladstone and Greta Lee presented Foster with the statuette at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the actress had an emotional moment as she immediately got the name of the HBO series wrong, calling it “True Detective: North Country”. Foster quickly recovered and said that making the series was a “magical experience and it all comes from above”, listing thanks to the creator “Night Country”Issa López, for the team and for Kali Reis, her colleague.
“The Bear”the FX series, just surpassed its own record for the most Primetime Emmys won by a comedy series in a single year, with 11 trophies. This is an improvement over last year’s 10 Emmys.
Sunday night’s big wins included lead actor (Jeremy Allen White as Carmy), actor in a supporting role in a comedy (Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richard “Richie” Jerimovich), actress in a supporting role in a comedy (Liza Colón- Zayas, in the role of Tina) and direction (Christopher Storer for “Fishes” shave Ramy Youssef for “Honeydew”).
The success of Netflix “Baby Reindeer” won the award for TV miniseries, and creator Richard Gadd received trophies for lead actor and screenplay. His co-star Jessica Gunning, who played Martha, his bully, won Best Supporting Actress.
The biggest surprise of the evening was “Hacks” from HBO which won the title of Best Comedy Series, over “The Bear”which many believed to be the winner.
After the 2023 gala was pushed back to January 2024 due to last year’s Hollywood strikes, it’s been just eight months since TV’s biggest stars gathered at the LA Live Peacock Theater in Los Angeles to announce the winners Amy.
Eugene and Dan Levy, the stars of “Schitt’s Creek”Emmy Award winners and father-son duo, hosted the 76th annual Emmy Awards. The show will be available to watch on Hulu on Monday.
