Without funds to continue investigations, the County Sports Directorate, through its representatives, shrugs. The hall regularly organizes events that bring together young people and children, with the risk of a possible tragedy.

Specialists say that all the buildings built between the Sports Hall and the sea in recent years have cut off the underground water drainage system. The authorizations did not take into account the consequences of the excavations.

The case of the hall is not unique in Constanța. Ovidius University is in the same situation, as is the Assumption Church.

The authorities summoned the representatives of the County Sports Directorate and decided to issue a warning. At the time of the examination of the hall, the basement was flooded.

The situation in the basement of the building goes back a long time. Pieces of plaster fell from the facade of several columns. Even the cracks did not attract attention, the children continued to carry out sports activities.

Events were still organized there that generated agglomeration. Only now, the authorities ordered the ban on the participation of spectators, in order to avoid crowding. Thus, the competitions were held with empty stands.

We allowed sports competitions to take place, provided the organizers were informed about the state of the building’s structure. Out of the desire not to disrupt the competitions already in progress, including those within the championships in which the events in Constanța are also included, we have agreed for them to continue“, the authorities explain.

At the beginning of this week, the case will reach the Prefect of the city, in order to determine the immediate measures, as well as the composition of the working group or commission that will evaluate the existing situation.
