A modern bridge built over the Zambezi River has become one of the most unusual tourist attractions in the world due to its unique geographical position.
The Kazungula Bridge, which connects Zambia to Botswana across the Zambezi River, has become one of Africa’s most spectacular tourist attractions in recent years and is increasingly on bucket-list travel lists. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that, from this point, visitors can simultaneously see four different countries.
Built at a length of 923 meters and opened in 2021, the bridge connects Botswana with Zambia, but its geographical position is unique: only a few meters away, across the waters of the Zambezi, are also Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Thus, from certain points on the bridge or in the surroundings, tourists can simultaneously observe several international borders, in a landscape rarely seen globally, according to express.
Modern infrastructure has replaced the old ferry service, which was considered slow and unreliable, significantly facilitating both local transport and regional tourism.
Nowadays, the crossing is much faster and the area has become a strategic point for itineraries that combine several southern African countries.
However, tourism specialists point out that the experience, although spectacular, requires careful planning.
Mohanjeet Brar, tourism expert and managing director of Gamewatchers Safaris, points out that crossing multiple borders in a small area can bring logistical challenges.
“It looks like a simple experience on paper, but without proper planning it can get complicated. We’re talking multiple border crossings, visa requirements and different wait times”he explained.
He recommends that visitors treat the area as a well-structured itinerary, not a spontaneous stop, to safely enjoy the experience.
The Kazungula Bridge also allows the combination of important tourist destinations in the region, such as Chobe National Park in Botswana and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe or Zambia, in a single circuit.
