Video The world’s steepest gravity-defying railway offers spectacular scenery: “A scary but fantastic ride”

Descending at an angle of 52 degrees, Australia’s Scenic Railway holds the record for the steepest passenger railway in the world. Located in the Blue Mountains, this unique railway line annually attracts thousands of tourists eager for adrenaline and spectacular views.

A train ride that descends at a dizzying 52-degree angle, it is considered the steepest passenger railway in the world. It is about the Scenic Railway, located in the Blue Mountains of Australia, an attraction that combines pure adrenaline with impressive natural landscapes, express writes.

The Scenic Railway is located in the Scenic World tourist complex on the edge of the Jamison Valley and holds the Guinness World Record for the steepest passenger railway. The train descends at a speed of about four meters per second at an angle of 52 degrees, passing through rock tunnels and areas of rainforest.

Although today it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Australia, the railway was not originally built for pleasure. The line was built in 1878 as part of the Katoomba Mining Tramway, used to transport coal and shale from the mountains to the valley.

In 1945, entrepreneur Harry Hammon turned the trail into a tourist attraction. Since then, the Scenic Railway has been owned and operated by the Hammon family. Since 2013, the carriages have been modernized and equipped with glass roofs so that visitors can admire the scenery in a panoramic experience.

Since opening, more than 25 million tourists have traveled on the Scenic Railway. The train can carry 84 passengers at a time and departs every 10 minutes.

The Scenic World complex also includes a cable car with a glass floor, a skyway over the valley and walking trails through the rainforest.

Most visitors claim that the experience is a memorable one.
