Winter has suddenly returned to Romania. A wave of polar air brought heavy snow to several mountain areas, and road users intervened to keep traffic safe. In the mountainous areas of Gorj County, a layer of snow of over 35 centimeters was deposited.
The interventions took place throughout the night to keep the roads open, according to the Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges (DRDP) Craiova.
On DN 67C, between Novaci and Rânca, the roadway is covered by a layer of snow, and the machinery also operated with the snow blower to remove the snow and ensure the gauge of the road.
“Over 35 cm of snow fell last night. In the mountainous area of Gorj county, it snowed in significant quantity and the wind blew the newly deposited snow. Action was taken all night to keep the road open to road traffic. On the road side, a layer of 1-2 cm is recorded between Novaci and Rânca, from the area of km 22 to km 34+800. Do not move on the road sectors where records snow with vehicles not properly equipped for winter! At this time it is snowing lightly and the wind is blowing moderately”, wrote DRDP Craiova on Facebook.
Also, on DN 7A, road users constantly intervene to clean the roadway.
The authorities advise drivers not to travel in the affected areas without the appropriate winter equipment of the motor vehicle.
For its part, the National Meteorological Administration issued on Saturday morning nowcasting warnings of orange code of snow and strong wind for mountain areas located at over 1,800 meters in the counties of Brașov, Argeș, Prahova and Dâmbovița.
At the same time, other mountain regions in Maramureș, Bistrița-Năsăud and Cluj are under a yellow code of snow and wind intensification, the warnings being valid until 12:00.
Forecasters warn that snow will continue in the highlands and the wind will blizzard the snow, reducing visibility and making traffic conditions difficult.
