The Astra Film Festival opens registrations for volunteers and accepts people of any age, the only condition being the legal minimum age for volunteer activities (14 years). Registrations can be made between June 4 and August 19 by filling out a form available on the festival website: https://www.astrafilm.ro/voluntar/inscriere. This year, the Astra Film Festival will take place in Sibiu between October 20-27, 2024.
“The impeccable organization of the Astra Film festival, one of the most important cultural events dedicated to documentary film in the whole world, would not be possible without the enthusiastic support of the more than 300 volunteers who are part of the beautiful AFF team every year. We are aware that the best things can be done when the energy of youth joins hands with the experience of those who have passed through life, and we are waiting with people of any age, passionate about cinematography and culture.“, said Dumitru Budrala, director-founder of Astra Film Festival.
Candidates will participate in an interview and those accepted will be assigned, depending on their preferences and skills, to one of the eight departments:
• Info Point (central information and guidance point for AFF participants)
• Guest (receiving and guiding special guests, filmmakers, directors, journalists, VIP personalities)
• Logistics/Technical (pre- and post-festival location preparation and management)
• Screening spaces and locations (coordinating access, updating public information boards, support for Q&A sessions)
• Public speaking (practice speaking in public on topics related to the documentary film)
• Crisis management and administrative support (ensuring the smooth running of each AFF event)
• Subtitling (facilitating communication and understanding of film content for the festival's diverse audience)
• Industry (part of AFF networking activities and events with documentary film professionals)

According to Astra Film Festival organizers, AFF volunteers, who are treated with respect during the festival, have the chance to expand their own horizons, meeting new people, watching the best documentaries of the moment and “contribute to creating an open and friendly atmosphere , where dialogue and diversity are encouraged and facilitate interaction between participants and filmmakers”. Astra Film Festival, a festival launched in Sibiu in 1993 as an innovative project, is one of the most important non-fiction film festivals in Europe. Under the High Patronage of the President of Romania, the festival is organized by Astra Film, CNM Astra and the Astra Film Foundation, with the Ministry of Culture as a strategic partner, with the support of the Sibiu County Council, the National Center of Cinematography, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the Consulate of the Federal Republic Germany in Sibiu and the Union of Cinematographers. The event is co-financed by the Sibiu City Council through the Sibiu City Hall.
